Muzsikas with Marta Sebestyen - Live at the Liszt Academy of Music (MU005) CD

Muzsikas with Marta Sebestyen - Live at the Liszt Academy of Music (MU005) CD
The Budapest Spring Festival is one of the major events in the Hungarian cultural calendar. Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen have regularly appeared at the Spring Festival since 1999. This release is a compilation of concerts, mainly based on their appearances in 2003 where they performed together with the Pro Musica Choir.
'Great playing that takes Bartók back to the future.
... The live atmosphere lends a particular edge to the recording, and the rhythmic, syncopated beat of a dancer's feet give some of the material tremendous urgency. Very fine stuff indeed''
Songlines magazine Nov/Dec 2004
Digipak with 28 page booklet with notes in English and Hungarian.

Muzsikas with M Sebestyen, A Balanescu - Bartok Album (MU001) CD

Muzsikas with M Sebestyen, A Balanescu - Bartok Album (MU001) CD
Muzsikas decided to show the 'collector' side of Bartok in this album. Joining them is the Romanian born violin vituoso Alexander Balanescu, who adds his unique techniques to this masterpiece. 'Now, when I work with Muzsikas ensemble, I feel that something important is happening to me. I can feel just how important for me is the cultural background against which I grew up, the area from where I came.' A. Balanescu.
CD with 80 page booklet in Hungarian and English.

Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen - Lost Jewish Music of Transylvania (MU002) CD

Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen - Lost Jewish Music of Transylvania (MU002) CD
Everybody knows klezmer music, but what we can hear on this exceptional album is the ancestor of klezmer - the forgotten old Jewish music of the Carpathian Basin. Muzsikás has recorded these songs after years of research, which produced interesting results - for example collecting music from gypsies, authentic players of klezmer, or finding instruments such as the guitar-like 'zongura' or drum with cymbal. The results of this research are all here on this wonderful album. The beautiful trustworthy voice of Márta Sebestyén brings a special breath to this recording.
Kohsid Wedding Dances - Chaszid lakodalmi táncok
Jewish Csardas Series from Szek - Széki zsidó csárdások

Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen - Morning Star (MU003) CD

Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen - Morning Star (MU003) CD
"Their ace is unquestionably singer Marta Sebestyen, whose pure, soulful tones are the kind to make knees buckle and tears flow."
Q magazine, UK

'Transylvanian instrumental music embodies centuries of aesthetic values. In our concerts, we have repeatedly had the experience that these melodies, reflecting essentially pure feelings and irresistible impetus are able to powerfully communicate to people, no matter where in the world they are from . On this album, we aimed to play and sing as our village masters did: all together, breathing as one, watching each other as we play, in order to express this music's inner life.' Muzsikas
Madocsai Szolo-Orzo - A Song from Madocsa
Ej, Csillag, Csillag - Oh, Morning Star- Farewell To Soldiers

Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen - Blues for Transylvania, Osz az ido (MU004) CD

Muzsikas and Marta Sebestyen - Blues for Transylvania, Osz az ido (MU004) CD
"Muzsikas has created its own style and sound in folk music. The classical album of this sound is 'Blues for Transylvania"
fRoots magazine, UK
"Their playing alternates between fiery, fiddle-induced instrumentals of a celebratory skirt-raising kind and impossibly sorrowful sounding ballads with lashings of hurdy-gurdy pipes. Their ace, though, is unquestionably singer Marta Sebestyen, whose pure, soulful tones are the kind to make knees buckle and tears flow."
Q magazine, UK

Besides the usual string instruments the distinguished folk band use on this album instruments recalling the old times in music - bagpipes, pan flutes and hurdy-gurdy.
